This place is magical. People come from the Continental Divide to rest, share stories and prepare hearty meals. Lucky, the owner, is one of the nicest person I've met. The place is cozy, clean and well equipped with kitchen supplies and an hiker box. And for 25$ a night you get the perfect atmosphere to meet new people.

Advice: bring earplugs ?

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. A clean, compact, and comfortable hostel experience for a very reasonable price. Full kitchen with lots of leftover communal food and town gear for getting around and doing laundry. Got to meet so many kind and generous people, including many CT thru-hikers. Without a doubt would stay here again if in the area.

What a cool place. I wish I had found this years ago. The owner, Lucky is a fantastic guy and very helpful in guiding you toward your Backcountry adventures. Great books to read, two rooms with 6-8 bunks and the kitchen area is very open. A short walk from here is the general store where you can get your groceries.

My man ran the San Juan Solstice 50-miler yesterday and I tried to keep up with him for the last 10 miles of the course, meaning we both needed showers. A local race volunteer recommended the hostel for a shower, but when we arrived, no one was there. Thankfully, there’s a note on the wall saying that if no one is there, to leave the $5 per shower on the wall and to have at it. So grateful for this particular honor system and so was our tent and our sleeping bags! Thank you!!

After limping into Lake City on a sprained ankle during my Colorado Trail thru-hike this summer, I had an extended stay at the Raven's Rest, and decided to jump on here to give the place my 'thumbs up'. The hostel is pretty simple: basically a converted space behind the owner's personal residence. It has 12 bunks in 2 rooms, 4 showers, and two toilets. All of these are organized around a central living room/kitchen. Immediately outside is a hang-out area with a firepit. The showers and bathrooms are clean and have plenty of hot water, and the beds, while not fancy, are comfortable enough and supplied with clean linens. The kitchen area is also quite clean and organized.

The place is operated in a pretty laid back way: the owner, Lucky, works during the day, so you basically show up, stash your stuff, and pay him in the evening. Because the hostel is centered around a communal living space with comfy couches, an outside firepit, and a large kitchen table, it fosters a friendly and social atmosphere. As opposed to hostels/hotels where people tend to hang out in small groups or alone in their rooms, people at the Raven's Rest tend to hang out in the communal space. Even on 'quiet' nights with few/tired guests, people will sit around on the couches together reading books/emails and talking quietly. It was this social atmosphere that really made the Raven's Rest stand out for me as my favorite accommodation along the Colorado Trail.

If I'm ever through Lake City again, I will definitely be staying at the Raven's Rest hostel.
