They have an incredible collection of antique oriental carpets, including rare pieces. I recently bought a very old, stunningly beautiful 19 foot long runner in awesome condition, and I don't think I have ever purchased an item destined to give me more day-to-day pleasure. I also bought a marvelous antique tree-of-life Mohtasham Kashan, which is now hanging on the wall above the runner. I should also mention that both the owner, Michael Kourosh, and his assistant Sam are incredibly helpful, not to mention knowledgeable.

As a designer, Santa Barbara Design is invaluable. In traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco, searching for rugs, Santa Barbara Design is no doubt at the pinnacle of resources for rugs in the western part of the United States. I have not found such a selection from contemporary to museum quality antiques. The antique rugs are phenomenal, it is absolutely remarkable to see so many artistic gems in one location.

Recently I was seeking a referral to a qualified and knowledgeable design professional who could assist with antique and Oriental rugs. The name I was given by two Santa Barbara contacts in the design space was that of Michael Kourosh. Michael did not disappoint! He has been steeped in the history, traditions and beauty of these rugs since childhood. He easily and patiently imparts information and details regarding the makers and the craft of these cherished pieces; you develop an even greater appreciation of the discipline and the skill woven into each rug. If you ever watch his television show, “Design Santa Barbara” you will get a glimpse of Michael’s expertise in assessing and evaluating these distinctive textiles – and he is very approachable and helpful in person as the owner of the Santa Barbara Design Center.

This is a great store to buy furniture and unique decor pieces, as well as to get inspiration. They have lots of decor pieces from India and other Asian countries. Their couches are well made with really nice fabrics. There are hundreds of rugs, as well. Today, everything was at least 30% off and the owner gave me an incredible deal on a small framed painting. I would highly recommend checking this place out if you haven’t yet.

I never usually take the time to write reviews about places, especially ones where I'm shopping, but I was absolutely blown away by the Santa Barbara Design Center. They have everything you could possibly need to decorate a variety of spaces. They can custom create furniture pieces for you and have a huge selection of fabrics and patterns to choose from. Michael and his staff of designers are incredibly competent and are ready to help. They made my shopping experience very pleasant and extremely easy. I will definitely be going back for all of my decorating needs.
