I never leave reviews for any reason, I’d rather just move on with my day most of the time after a negative experience, but I cannot NOT say something about this.
Let me preface this by saying I am a massive rule follower, if I’m not sure about something I always ask. I have always followed the rotary’s rules to a T, and if I have been in doubt, I’ve found a volunteer to double check if I can have an item or not.
For the 2nd week in a row, someone has called me out for gathering household goods.
Last week I got a patio set with a couple of pillows (which they said counted as 2 large Items) and various smaller items (lamps (only ONE matching set), a fire escape ladder (we have a 2 story on base, so it was for my sons room in case of emergency), and a couple of knick knacks (think picture frame or small what not item). According to Linda, the large household items are limited to 2 large items per week. The warehouse with household goods is not a limited on the little things. The only additional LARGE item I had in the truck was a piece to my couch I LEFT BEHIND ACCIDENTALLY a couple of weeks before. I messaged the Facebook page and asked them to hold the missing couch piece for me so for obvious reasons, it went home with my patio set I had gotten. I don’t know if they saw that and thought I was just secretly gathering more large items, but they should have asked me instead of assume something negative.
Someone came up to me afterward and asked me to leave, I was shocked and just didn’t say anything and left bc I was mortified.
Today I came back and the only items I got (besides when someone stopped me and gave me diapers when they saw me with my son) were as follows:
A couple of toys (tool set for a toddler and Lincoln logs), a fake plant and its matching stand, a few mixing bowls (I did not have mixing bowls), and 2 picture frames.
As far as the large items go, I had a small bookshelf (shorter than me and I’m 5’2) and a small side table tagged that was ALL.
As I drive up to load my items, a sweet active duty lady that was a volunteer was going to help me load. I saw a table outside and asked if it was going to someone else or if it was available (I explained I was going to remove my tag from the other side table, as the one I was inquiring about was in better condition). The volunteer told me she’d ask. Up walks Linda, the older lady in charge of the rotary, and I ask her if it was tagged or taken. She then says she didn’t know and asks me “haven’t I already been through already?” (To load large furniture items). To which I point at my truck and say “there isn’t anything in the bed, I haven’t gotten anything.” Then she says, “yeah well weren’t you here last week?” At this point I’m shocked bc how are you calling me out and coming at me for coming to the rotary once a week and only getting the allowed number of items I told her “yes,” in a shocked manor and she smuggly says “okay,” as if she was making a mental note. She also said, “well it’s only 2 large items ONCE PER WEEK.” At that point I went off and explained that I meticulously follow the rules and had always been polite to staff so I didn’t know what she was talking about. It is absolutely offensive to imply that I have already been through multiple times to load furniture which I absolutely had not been through already. I was visibly and audibly offended and her only reply was that “I’m sorry well maybe I’m confusing you with someone else.” I told her I didn’t even want the little furniture items anymore, went in and took my 2 tags off and left.
I don’t think you could pay me enough money to come back to the rotary after how nasty that experience was today. I don’t know how you can run a non profit and give items away and then accuse your patrons of taking advantage without proof, but that was absolutely embarrassing considering I always am careful to follow the rules
Maybe there are people who take advantage, resell, or cheat the system, but that was not me and never has been.
