We were replacing our wood floors and I really wanted wide plank floors. In Colorado you are only supposed to do hardwood up to 5”, so we decided to go with engineered flooring. I had many concerns that I discussed with Abbey and she said with the flooring I picked it “shouldn’t be a problem. Unfortunately, everything I was concerned about turned out to be a problem. There is a gap between the bottom of all our door frames where they are supposed to touch the floor, we had to tear out our marble entry accent, find new marble that matched our 33 year old fireplace marble and have them install it, otherwise there was going to be a small ramp up to the marble which was a trip hazard. Abbey insisted that was “normal installation”, but when I checked with other floor companies, that was not normal to have a trip hazard in your front entryway. I was also told how durable this material is and I find that it scratches very easily and dents easily as well. You also have to be very careful cleaning it, you can’t clean it like you would a normal hardwood floor as it is not smooth and fiber really gets in the flooring and can splinter it.

It is extremely heartbreaking as we spent a lot of money and it was a big project and I am sorry we ever put this flooring in our home. I truly wish there was more transparency from the beginning as I never would have used this product and now I have to live with it for a very long time. Abbey said to me that she never said it was the same size as hard wood, but when you turn to the professional for advice and there knowledge and they tell you “it shouldn’t be a problem” you kind of think, it shouldn’t be a problem. The whole thing was a problem. Fortunately, they do look beautiful, but now I have to deal with these inferior floors.

Meyer Skidmore did a great job on two of my projects - laying wood floor in two bedrooms and refinishing my floors throughout. They showed up on time, have a sophisticated way of sealing off your closet to protect your belongings and have a high level of craft and skill in their work. Their professionalism is top notch and they stand by their work which I appreciate greatly. Thank you to the team I can highly recommend.

We had Meyer Skidmore refinish our old wood floors and they did an amazing job! Abbey and Hayley were very, very responsive to all emails and more than willing to work around scheduling with another company who we hired to install new carpet. Damien and Enrique were awesome with the floor refinishing and really made sure everything was perfect. We couldn't be happier with how our floor looks and would highly recommend Meyer Skidmore! Thank you!

I relocated from across the country a few months ago, and have had the BEST experience with Meyer Skidmore! From start to finish, the professionalism, compassion and helpfulness from anyone I interacted with during the process of having my two sets of new hardwood stairs installed before I moved in, is truly unmatched by any other company I worked with during this whole process. They were timely, respectful and helpful and I really appreciated doing business with a female-owned family business.

I would 100% recommend this company for any flooring needs you may have, and I very much look forward to doing more business with them in the future! (Which won’t be my stairs anytime soon because they are so beautiful and I can tell from the quality of the product that they will last for years to come, plus they were wonderfully installed with expert level precision craftsmanship).

Next they are coming to install custom tile on my fireplace surround and I cannot wait! I can’t recommend Meyer Skidmore more highly, they are the absolute best! Do yourself a favor and go with the best flooring company in Boulder County! Thanks again Meyer Skidmore team!

UPDATE: Meyers Skidmore refused to honor our warranty because we complained here.

Our house burned down in a fire and our GC contracted with Meyers Skidmore to do our flooring in our new house. Here's what happened - we went to the showroom and showed them a picture of what we wanted, a light oak floor that would not clash with a certain type of wood cabinet we were planning to install. They showed us a sample of white oak with a certain finish. We said great, let's do that. The sample had about 20% grey streaks and 80% light oak color. Then they decided, without discussing it with us or explaining the possible consequences, to sub out the grade 1 wood in the sample with grade 2 wood that is about 80% dark grey streaks and only 20% light oak color. They never discussed wood grade with us or explained that they might purchase a floor that would not get us the mostly light oak look we were looking for. As a consequence, the wood floor clashes with our new cabinets. It is not even possible to refinish the floor to get the look we wanted, that is how dark and streaky the floor is.

We confronted them that they made selections for us without discussing and that the floor didn't look the way we wanted/expected. They sat tight lipped. They did not deny that they never gave us a choice of wood grade or that they never explained that the wood might look so different from the sample. No apology for a misunderstanding was suggested at all. No offer to change the finish, no concessions. Instead, they suggested we were guilty of acquiescing because they copied us in on an email to our builder that noted, "#2". Of course if we never discussed wood grade, so I had no idea that was a symbol for a wood grade. It is almost as if they don't believe we as customers deserve to choose our own floor. Our old house was lost in a tragic disaster, the new one is costing us over $1M to rebuild. Spending a few thousand more on wood to get the look we wanted would have been no big deal. Why take our choice about something that is so fundamental to the character of our new home away from us? This isn't a vacation house, we are rebuilding our forever home.

The installers also made a huge mess in our vents for no good reason. Because we have little children with asthma and don't want to deal with dust blowing out of our vents for months on end after move in, we carefully kept our brand new vents covered through construction to keep them clean. The floor installers removed our vent covers and let loose with the sanding, leaving piles of sawdust visible in our vents, which they did not attempt to shop vacuum out. We believe that they swept the excess sawdust into the vents when they were done. WHY DO THIS TO OUR PRISTINE HVAC?! In our old house, which was occupied, another company expanded our wood floor, which included a lot of sanding, and managed to keep our home super clean. They left no sawdust in our vents or anywhere else. It would have cost the installers NOTHING to show our new house the same respect.

See difference between sample and actual floor in pics. I'm sure the owner will come back and blame the mismatch between the sample and our floor on us somehow. If you read through the comments here, when things go wrong they never take responsibility or own up. Its always the customer's fault. Keep that in mind if you do business with Meyer's Skidmore.

**update - as predicted Meyers Skidmore blames me. Weirdly, they both admit that they never discussed wood grade with us AND claim we agreed to the wood grade (we were never shown grade 2 wood at any point in the showroom!). AND they consider our builder to be the client, not the homeowners! As I say above, they showed us grade 1, then bait and switch to grade 2. But this is a $1.2M custom house for which we discussed multiple upgrade options, upgrading to the sample wood we were shown should have been an option. Finally, their only offer was to let us pay the full cost to refinish our own floor. IF we were going to do that, why the hell would we pay them to do it?

Meyer Skidmore is truly the best! They do everything, and they do it right. Meyer Skidmore refinished my wood floors and constructed a new wood floor to match (exactly!) another area of my home. They also did a beautiful slate hearth pad inlay for my new wood stove. Attached are pictures - the back area is the new wood floor that perfectly matches the refinished floor. The hearth pad inlay is a dream. It was great working with the team from start to finish. You will not be disappointed going with Meyer Skidmore - they are the BEST!

I highly recommend Meyer Skidmore & co. They did approximately 1000 sq. ft. in my house and did a fantastic job. They were very attentive to my requests and concerns, fixed or changed anything I asked them to and their follow through was absolutely fantastic. Great work, great employees who were super easy to have in my house and very respectful and the outcome is gorgeous!
