Jersey Mike’s in Derby is an excellent location for the RT8 exit 16, 17 area, retail shops, and a hospital nearby. The staff were really nice and the service was quick considering plenty of other customers. The number 7 sandwich was fresh and delicious and enjoyed with a cold root beer.

This review is of the Derby, CT location for all the celiacs out there who need gluten free/allergy safety protocols.

I went around 1:30PM on Sunday, Nov 24, 2024.

As a chain, I experience Jersey Mike's to be be a little hit or miss in terms of precautions. Today I stopped at the one in Derby for the first time and really appreciated how thoroughly and attentively the staff person helping me followed the safety protocol and even politely called out/redirected other staff who were making a to-go order and started doing things that could expose my food to gluten.

Obviously it may not have gone as well had one of those other less attentive staff members helped me, but this woman seemed like she might have been in a leadership role, so I feel confident going back.

I made sure to be the last in line and not to go during a rush, but I was impressed at the time she took to get it right. Even my teen took notice and said, "I can see why you come here, mom."

As a vegetarian who loads my subs with veggies, the riskiest thing about Jersey Mike's for me is that most of the stores keep most of their veggies in a shared prep area where people put veggies on gluten-filled as well as gluten-free sandwiches. This is the case in the Derby shop too, but I noticed that the staff person helping me specifically did not pull my veggies from the top, but chose to go in more untouched areas of the bins and under the top layer. I really, really appreciated that.

Jersey Mike's uses Udi's sub rolls for gluten free subs. I am holding out hope that a better gluten free sub roll eventually will be available. The Udi's rolls can be on the dry side (I just use more sauces to counterbalance it), but subs are one of the things I miss most from before having celiac, so it hits the spot. Plus I love having a "fast food" I can actually eat, and it is both tasty and a healthier fast food option. I find myself going to Jersey Mike's more and more. It is pricier than I might like, I am guessing because the Udi's is not cheap, but as we celiacs know, it is worth it to have things we can eat out.

It is noteworthy that on every visit, my sandwich has consistently been exceptionally fresh. The ambiance of the establishment is delightful, and the staff members are commendable for their exceptional service. Additionally, the convenient option of placing an order in advance ensures that the sandwich is promptly ready upon arrival. Overall, this establishment deserves the highest rating of A++.

The staff consistently demonstrates attentiveness and dedication to ensuring customer satisfaction, going above and beyond to accommodate requests. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a diverse selection of delectable sandwiches, particularly those with discerning palates.

So for 4 years we've gone there and also order takeout 2x a week because it's the healthiest food in the area that's quick. Customer service is always mediocre and pick up orders have never once been correct. you subtract or add something and it doesn't get done etc.
one time I even had to ask them to change gloves after touching MONEY!! like hellllloooooo!!!
Today I went in and it was completely different. I got a sub in a tub as usual and they actually made it like a salad as requested. The gentleman was so accommodating to any substitutes, so polite and went above and beyond. I even asked him his name and he said MATT..
honestly I won't go back if that man doesn't make our food because he's EXCELLENT. Can they clone him? todays experience was 10/10

First time at this location I usually go to the Shelton one so I was standing in line and the crew member taking orders act like he didn’t see a black person standing in line trying to get service he totally didn’t acknowledge me standing there with my kid but he acknowledged the two white men standing behind me, cause he took their order my first and last time definitely zero

Send my uncle here yesterday to get sandwiches. He got the sandwiches the sandwiches were normal. There was something a little off about the soda but didn’t think nothing of it but maybe they just then put the equal parts of the liquid to make it taste like Pepsi etc …. Instead when my ice melted I opened my cup and had the whole soda spout in my drink I can not wait to speak to a manager . Do you see how digusting that spout is and my child and I drank that !!!

I don't know what happened to this store in particular, it used to be really good and the crew was on top of their game all the time! Now the service is trash, multiple times now I have had something wrong with my order, this time however, they didn't even start my order because they lost the receipt, according to the person behind the counter.

I've worked the business for many years, it's not that hard to make a sandwich and make it right, that is unless you hate your job and are just a body collecting a paycheck for little to no effort, don't work that job, it's pointless if all you're giving is trash service and trash food.

Move on so someone better can hopefully come in and do the job the way it should be done. Go find your niche cause working at Jersey Mike's is not it!

For everyone else, you can literally go to any other Jersey Mike's in CT and they'll probably run circles around the Derby location. Don't go here.
