The gentleman who answers the phone at Expert Appliance is a gem. I've called him a few times with trouble with my appliances. When I tell him what's going on, he usually suggests a couple of things I should try on my own to fix the situation (cleaning my filter with dishwashing soap & an old toothbrush, getting my dryer vent cleaned out) before sending out the repairman. A couple of times, that was the solution I needed and he saved me hundreds of $$.

When I did need an actual repair, the person he sent over was another straight shooter. As a woman, I generally hate dealing with repairmen. If you're lucky, they're just patronizing. What a relief when Jose turned out to be a nice, professional, normal guy, answering all my questions like a regular human being. He straightforwardly explained the problem and the solution. And even showed up early. (Makes me wonder why so many repairmen are creepy around women.)

I’m glad to see that old-school repair shops like this one haven’t disappeared entirely.
I visited Expert Appliance to help me fix a Miele vacuum cleaner that wasn’t doing so well. I’d brought in the vacuum without the hose, which they said they guessed might be a little clogged. The guys’ free advice on how to try and unclog the hose worked like a charm when I went back home and tried it out. So they saved me the cost of a repair, and they were very friendly about it. I’ll definitely be going back when something breaks for real—and they sell all kinds of accessories for the vacuum cleaner, as well as coffeemakers, toaster ovens, and the like. I’m almost glad to have had this fixable problem with the vacuum cleaner—otherwise I might never have learned about this store, which isn’t in my neighborhood.

[Turns out small items like socks can spin into the drain and clog it over time - now you know why socks sometimes mysteriously disappear! Use a mesh bag for small stuff.]. Friendly, fast, neat, efficient, professional - got the price upfront and that was that. No nonsense, no b.s., no upsell.
