True Value, Bristol, CT. Big shoutout to Bob( same last name but not a relative of mine). Many thanks Bob on your expertise cutting those keys for my Brinks Promaster lock- they were precision. Love this True Value store and the entire staff. It is my hardware “candy store” and has everything. I avoid the “big box” stores whenever possible. Thanks again.

I recently needed a belt for my lawn mower and found that most places were selling it for around $10. Since I needed it quickly, I decided to go to True Value because it’s close by and I thought it would be convenient. However, they charged me $30 for the same belt I saw elsewhere for $10. When I mentioned that it seemed overpriced, the response I got was, “not on my website.”

In short, True Value is extremely overpriced. I won’t be going back anytime soon. It’s frustrating because small local stores often charge significantly more than the big chains. While I prefer to support local businesses, I can’t justify paying three times the price.

I went in near closing time looking for a handful of a particularly unusual screw. Two of the employees spent a good while searching for a match. It wasn't easy to find but they found it. They were immensely helpful and went above and beyond. I can't say enough good things about this place and the folks who work there. I never would have found what I was looking for at a Home Depot or Lowe's. This is gonna be my regular go to place from now on.

I’ve been renting all types of power equipment from this place for years. They are always busy and if you go there on weekend, be prepared to wait your turn to be helped. The owner is a great guy and has always given me some good tips on the jobs I’m about to tackle. The Hardware store next door is also great, with great customer service.. I will always use this store before any big box store.

Never shop here! Ask questions about what is returnable or not prior to your purchase. Bought 12 gauge cord and after realizing I didn't need it the location told me it's a final sale and non-returnable. Thanks for screwing me. It's big box store for me going forward.

See my COVID-19 reviews for other stores in the area.

First, note that the store hours have temporarily changed. They are open seven days a week from 8am-5pm. I got there around 4:15pm on a Saturday (4/25). You have to line up outside the store to wait for a store employee to come outside to take your order. Customers are not allowed inside.

There are no markings or guides for customers outside, you just have to maintain your distance from others on your own. When it was my turn, I showed the employee a picture of what I wanted. He found it quickly, came back out to confirm it with me, and told me how much it cost. I gave him exact change, but when he asked me if I wanted a receipt and I said yes, he had to go back inside to get it. We did have to within arm’s length of each other for me to pay and get the receipt. Otherwise it was fast and easy to get what I needed.

The bad reviews circle around two things - old, worn out rental items, and "poor customer service". Both make sense but are not worth a one star review. Everyone in there seems very knowledgeable, handles multiple jobs, and helps a wide array of people with many issues. You're not dealing with someone who is paid to stand in a warehouse and point you to isles, or to spend twenty minutes presenting you with a wide array of mowers. These are hardworking folks who can offer real, efficient, help with everyday needs. No, they won't have a million options (though they have an impressive selection) but you simply cannot understate the value of a small, local hardware store. Haven't been burned yet.
