This place is the definition of a hidden gem! You could drive right past it without knowing it held BY FAR the best selection and quality of wood in all of New England in my opinion. Every length, width, thickness, dimensional and slabs you could ever need. Best of all, the people who work there are SALT OF THE EARTH. I walked in for the first time today, was greeted by Ben, and instantly felt welcome and wanted. He asked me what brought me in, which this time was just to get a little bit of walnut and maple for cutting boards. I'm only a hobbyist woodworker and being a hobbyist woodworker, sometimes you don't get the time of day at other lumber yards. NOT HERE!!! Ben took me through the whole place to show me everything they had, everything they could do, and actually cared why I was there and appreciated me coming there. Honestly, I don't think I will ever go to another supplier because not only is their product the best I've ever seen, but the people are equally as special.The pictures I took are of one very small section of their stock, they have a tremendous amount more that I was too busy giggling about in sheer joy to take pictures of.
I could rant about them all day, but i'll leave it by saying GO HERE.

I had been looking for a black walnut table top for quite a while, but had a hard time finding the right one. As soon as I walked into Barrette's, I knew my search was over. They had every piece of wood you could imagine, and on top of that, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. I encourage anyone with a woodworking project to pay these guys a visit.

I enthusiastically echo the other positive reviews! Ben could not have been more inviting and helpful during my 1st visit! Their inventory is amazing and it is especially great for an amatuer woodworker to have a wide variety of smaller board lengths (less than 4ft) yet never did I feel like I was wasting their time with my small purchase. Absolutely my 1st choice for hardwood boards!

Best day ever! Ben, his wife and their son Tom treated us like family. They are patient and extremely informative. Phenomenal selection of native CT dimensional lumber and the largest selection of slabs (which are planed both sides) I've ever seen. This is a true candy store for woodworkers. A special place, run by special people. GO THERE NOW!

Outstanding business! Bill was amazing to work with...easygoing, knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. We just ordered our second load for 2 accent walls and 2 barn doors. It is so refreshing to work with a small, family owned business where customer service is top notch. Forget the internet folks. Barrette's Lumber is well worth the drive and time to look for what you need.

We have been buying wood at Barrette’s since 1986 when we built our first house. Three houses later, we are still going back for the best quality woods we can find. Barrette’s has supplied lumber used for wide pine floors, live edge counters and custom furniture including those hard to find native hardwoods for special projects. Ben and his family are the nicest people and deserve all the respect and admiration they get. It’s always a fun trip to their place. And they let you look around until you find just the right piece. Like being a kid in a candy store.
